Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa: African Football Player to Watch

Viewers on DStv and GOtv can look forward to seeing one of Africa’s top footballers, Cameroon midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, in crucial Serie A action on Sunday 24 October 2021.

DStv and GOtv is the only true home of football in Africa, offering a range and depth of action that no other rival can match – it’s literally ‘Unbeatable Football’! If you’re going to spend your money on something, it may as well be on the best football in the world.

Zambo Anguissa is a newcomer to Serie A, having joined Napoli on loan from Fulham at the start of the 2021-22 season. The 25-year-old has also played for Stade de Reims, Olympique Marseille and Villarreal in his European club career.

He has quickly established himself as a regular under manager Luciano Spalletti, and while the Neapolitans have an option to purchase the player outright at the end of the loan contract in June of next year, the Indomitable Lions midfielder insists he is not thinking that far ahead.

“I immediately realised that Naples would be the right choice for me because I immediately felt everyone’s trust, when the proposal arrived, I did not think twice to accept,” he explained of his move to Naples.

“At this moment, I don’t think about the contract. I’m interested in playing: time will tell if I deserve to move here permanently. I am very happy to be here in Naples. We will see what happens, but now I think of the field and give my best every time I play.”

Zambo Anguissa’s teammate, Napoli goalkeeper David Ospina, says the Cameroonian is exactly the kind of player they needed to bring to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona to boost the squad and their hopes of challenging for top honours.

“He’s a very strong player, he can help us a lot,” Ospina explained of Zambo Anguissa. “We absolutely needed him, he has the right maturity and experience. He raised our level to achieve the targets we want.”

The Cameroonian joins fellow Africans Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal) and Victor Osimhen (Nigeria) in forming the outfield ‘spine’ of this Napoli team, and all three will be looking to continue the fine form they have shown so far this season when they come up against Jose Mourinho and his Roma side.

The Giallorossi v Neapolitan clash can be seen from the Stadio Olimpico in ‘The Eternal City’ LIVE on SuperSport Football and SuperSport GOtv Select 1 on the evening of Sunday 24 October.

  • UEFA Europa League preview, 15-16 September 2021

SuperSport viewers on DStv and GOtv can look forward to Matchday 1 action from the UEFA Europa League, with matches scheduled to run on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 September 2021.

DStv and GOtv is the only true home of football in Africa, offering a range and depth of action that no other rival can match – it’s literally ‘Unbeatable Football’! If you’re going to spend your money on something, it may as well be on the best football in the world.

The group stage already got underway on Monday 6 September with Galatasaray v Lazio and Lokomotiv Moscow v Olympique Marseille (due to scheduling constraints), while Wednesday 15 September sees Spartak Moscow host Legia Warsaw.

Thursday 16 September is then a busy evening across Europe, with 13 matches being played. The pick is definitely the meeting of Leicester City and Napoli at the King Power Stadium for their Group C opener.

“The English teams are very difficult, but we will embrace the challenge,” said Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti. “We have made progress so far this season and our performances in the Europa League will be a further measuring stick.”

West Ham United and their fans will be thrilled to be returning to European competition, with manager David Moyes looking forward to the experience – which will start with a trip to Croatia to face Dinamo Zagreb.

“We’re really excited. We watched the draw, and watching the teams come out of the pots the biggest thrill was seeing West Ham in one of the pots, back in Europe and getting supporters back at the games hopefully as well,” said Moyes.

“Hopefully we can get them to the away games as well as being at London Stadium, and for us it’s a great opportunity. The players earned it with their performances last year – they played so well throughout the season and, rightly so, they’ve merited a place in European competition.”

The meeting of PSV Eindhoven and Real Sociedad is another key clash, as is the visit of Scottish giants Celtic to Seville to face Real Betis: “Looking at the calibre of the teams we’re going to be up against, I’m super excited,” said Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou.

“We obviously missed out on the Champions League this year, but you see the calibre of the teams in all of the groups in the Europa League – there’s some fantastic opponents, pedigree, tradition and history. We’re going to be up against it and I’m sure all of the players and everyone at the club is looking forward to it.”

Celtic’s arch rivals Rangers will be at home to Olympique Lyon, Monaco face Austria’s Sturm Graz, and Portugal’s Sporting Braga will chase an away win at Serbia’s Red Star, also known as Crvena Zvezda.

  • UEFA Champions League preview, 14-15 September 2021

SuperSport viewers on DStv and GOtv can look forward to Matchday 1 action from the UEFA Champions League, with matches scheduled to run from Tuesday 14 to Wednesday 15 September 2021.

DStv and GOtv is the only true home of football in Africa, offering a range and depth of action that no other rival can match – it’s literally ‘Unbeatable Football’! If you’re going to spend your money on something, it may as well be on the best football in the world.

The 2021-22 UCL group stage will get underway amid much fanfare – and the return of fans in either full or limited capacity at most venues – on the midweek of 14-15 September. Tuesday’s action opens with two early games, as Swiss side Young Boys play host to Manchester United (and the returning Cristiano Ronaldo!), while Sevilla and Salzburg clash in Spain.

Yet the pick of Tuesday’s games is definitely the night clash of Barcelona and Bayern Munich in Group E, with the Catalan giants looking for revenge for the 8-2 defeat they suffered at the hands of the Bavarians when the teams last met in September 2020.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann insists he is not worried by the challenge that awaits his team in the group phase: “The teams are all very nice. Barcelona is top, then Benfica and Dynamo Kiev. All three are very good teams and opponents. These are beautiful destinations, which is always important. Great stadiums. I really am looking forward to it.”

Tuesday also features reigning champions Chelsea beginning the defence of their title at home to Russia’s Zenit Saint Petersburg, as well as an intriguing clash between ‘The Yellow Submarine’ of Villarreal and ‘The Goddess’ of Atalanta.

Wednesday features some genuine heavyweight bouts, particularly the meeting of Liverpool and Milan at Anfield. The Reds and the Rossoneri have a combined 13 UCL titles between them and famously met in two finals in 2004-05 (won by Liverpool) and 2006-07 (won by Milan).

“We played, I don’t know how often, already against Porto, so they will be waiting for us. We have obviously a little bit of [an] open bill with Atletico, and AC Milan, a historical one obviously,” said Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. “So, I think our supporters should be looking forward to it – we do, for sure!”

Another meeting of the behemoths sees Internazionale host Real Madrid at the San Siro, with the Italian champions hoping to get off to a fast start in Group D.

“The Champions League for us is a very prestigious competition,” said Inter legend and club vice president Javier Zanetti. “We will face Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk again like last year, then there is Sheriff who play for the first time in the Champions League, and we will approach every match with great humility.”

  • Messi set to Leave Barcelona

    Messi set to Leave Barcelona

Lionel “Leo” Andrés Messi, a professional footballer who plays for and captains the Argentina national team is all set to leave FC Barcelona, Mazima has learnt. Officials from Barcelona have informed the public about financial and structural obstacles.

“Despite the club and player reaching an agreement and their clear intention to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles. As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled.” Officials from the club said in a statement.

“FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to the aggrandizement of the club and wishes him all the very best for the future in his personal and professional life.” The statement adds.

Messi has made 778 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 672 goals which have helped the club to claim 10 league titles, four Champions Leagues and three Club World Cups among his haul of 35 trophies.

Last month Messi agreed to a five-year deal on reduced wages rather than a two-year extension initially discussed. The agreement was expected to keep Barcelona within the boundaries of La Liga’s financial fair play regulations but that has proved impossible.

Barcelona needed to move players out to renew Messi’s deal and they have not been able to find the solution. The club, whose total debt is about €1,173m, is constrained by the league’s salary cap. Messi had agreed to a 50% pay cut, dropping from about €45m basic after tax closer to €20m.

The question is where will Messi play this season. He tried to leave Barcelona in August 2020 after the collapse of his relationship with the then president Josep Maria Bartomeu but was forced to stay. Now, when he was keen to continue for longer, it appears he is being forced to go.

Spanish media reported that the club had been in talks with their top-earning players such as Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets and Sergi Roberto about reducing their salaries in return for contract extensions.

The club had also been trying to sell high-earning players including Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele, Philippe Coutinho, Samuel Umtiti and Martin Braithwaite but have not yet found suitors for them.

The club’s president Joan Laporta will hold a news conference on Friday morning in the wake of Messi’s exit.

Athletes Cheptegei & Kiplimo Win First 2020 Olympics Medals for Uganda

Ugandan athletes Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo have earned the country her first ever double medals in the Olympics men’s 10000m final.

Cheptegei secured silver in 27:43.63 with teammate Jacob Kiplimo taking bronze in 27:43.88 as Uganda registered her maiden medals at the summer games.

During the final, Cheptegei put up a spirited last minute run to catch up with Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega, the men’s 10000m final winner.

The 21 year old Barega timed his last-lap sprint to perfection to win the first athletics gold of the Games in 27min 43.22sec.

Meanwhile Uganda’s Stephen Kissa pulled out of the race after almost 19 minutes over unclear reasons.

  • World Cup in Calgary – Swiss feminine soccer gamers have additionally efficiently prevailed towards the USA

The Swiss national team celebrated their 10th victory in their eleventh World Cup game in Calgary with a score of 5-6 against the USA.

After Skipp Silvana Terenzoni’s Swiss team took part in the knockout round against the Russians early on Thursday evening, they also won the next game. Switzerland won the duel against the USA with Tabitha Peterson Scape 6: 5.

This means that CCAraw’s Melanie Barbizat, Esther Neuschwander, Trinzoni and Alena Batz have won 10 times after 11 games. In their pursuit of victories, the current world champions are on the verge of setting an impressive record in Swiss curling for women.

    Admission is still possible

Patz, who always plays fourth place in the Terenzone crew and always plays the last pair of stones, became world champion in Sapporo in 2015 after skipping Baden Reggio. He won 12 of 13 games, averaging 92.3 percent. The proportion of women in Aarau is currently 90.9%.

You still have two Robben rounds to play (against Germany and Estonia), then the “quarter-finals”, the semi-finals and either the final or the game for third place. If you go undefeated for the rest of the World Cup, you will break the record.

  • Manchester United Appoint Solskjaer As Permanent Manager

Manchester United have announced that current caretaker manager and former striker, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, has been appointed as the club’s full-time manager on a three-year contract.

Solskjær scored 126 goals in 366 appearances for United between 1996 and 2007 and also managed the club’s reserve team until the end of 2010. He was appointed caretaker manager on 19 December 2018 and won his first eight games in charge on the way to an overall record of 14 victories and two draws in 19 games, amassing more Premier League points than any other club during that time.

“From the first day I arrived, I felt at home at this special club,” said Solskjær. “This is the job that I always dreamed of doing and I’m beyond excited to have the chance to lead the club long-term and hopefully deliver the continued success that our amazing fans deserve.”

Ed Woodward, Executive Vice Chairman, comments: “Since coming in as caretaker manager in December, the results Ole has delivered speak for themselves.”

  • Arsène Wenger To Get Honour From Liberia’s George Weah

Liberian President George Weah is to award his former football coach, Arsène Wenger, his country’s highest honour.

President Weah, the only African to have been named World Player of the Year, was signed by Wenger in 1988 when he coached Monaco.

Wenger, who stepped down as Arsenal manager in May after 22 years, nurtured several African stars.

The president retired from football in 2003 and went into politics. He won last year’s election by a landslide.

Wenger is expected to be in Liberia’s capital, Monrovia, for the award ceremony on Friday, Liberia’s Information Minister Eugene Nagbe said,

  • A Quick insight into Manchester United’s Season

Yet another draw, and it’s been the story of our season. We’ve wasted so many chances to close the gap and we’re just not good enough. I showed you the table yesterday and at least for me it was clear that today’s match was importante but it seems people inside the club don’t think the same.

First, Mourinho benches Martial. Come on!!! He gave 2 assists the last match, Mou promised to play him if he had a god match but ir seems 2 assists are not good enough.
Second, the players or at least some just seem to be enjoying the money they earn.

Creating goal celebrations before they score goals? Who the hell does that? Oh, yeah! Pogba and Lingard do that kind of things… I don’t remember Keane, Scholes, Carrick, hell even Cleverly showing off a new haircut every week. First things first, do the job and then on vacations use your money on haircuts.

Maybe you’ll think that I’m too harsh on our lads but you have to love the club. I remember when Scholes injured Rooney on purpose during a training session just because Rooney had asked to leave the club. It seems players are treated like princesses nowadays.

Zlatan, he can’t have a clean ball. He hits someone, his leg is too high and things like that, but at least he know he is there to set an example. He is talking with the young lads, he gives them advice but come on lad, you’ve not conquered England, we’ve won sh*t this season. People, we have to talk after we do the things.

It’s clear that now it’s gonna be even more difficult, even making the top four will be difficult. There are some Van Gaal things still in our players head; things like a lot of senseless high-balls, we need to pass the ball, we need to shot, we need to have class, we can’t excuse ourselves on hte opposite goalkeeper. We have Zlatan, Pogba, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Rooney, Rashford at least
one of those lads should’ve scored today.

We laugh at liverpool, chelsea, arsenal, city and yet we make the same mistakes. Lads, please stop the banter on other teams, first things first as I’ve said before, train, deliver, do the job and maybe at the end of the season we’ll get to laugh at other teams. Don’t spit up, and that is a life lesson.

Hopefully we’ll get better the coming matches (I’ve been saying that for such a long time…)
Just to make things clear, I don’t hate any of our players, I love they are in our club. The only thing I ask is for some professionalism, they are football players not pop stars.
